I’m very happy to find out that my former professor and mentor at Boston University’s MFA program, author Ha Jin, has been elected to the American Academy of Arts and Letters. Ha Jin’s work was one of the main reasons I applied to B.U.’s program. After studying under him and relying on him still for guidance, I can honestly say I’ve seldom met a more humble, approachable, and brilliant literary mind. News of Ha Jin’s election can be found here.
If you haven’t yet, I highly recommend watching this incredible conversation between Junot Diaz and Toni Morrison. What they have to say about literature, gender, and race is incredibly important.
Happy to see my former poetry professor Denise Duhamel be named one of the finalists for this year’s National Book Critics Circle Award! I took Denise’s Poetic Techniques course as an undergrad at Florida International University a few years back. She’s a wonderful professor and a great poet. Big congrats!
Boston University’s MFA blog shared the news about some of my upcoming publications. BU’s program was instrumental in helping me craft my story collection and getting me started on my novel. For that, and for making me a better writer, I will be forever grateful.
I’ve just found out today that my short story “The Comforter,” which is based on tragic events that took place at a psychiatric hospital in Havana a few years ago, has been accepted for publication by the Southern Humanities Review! I’m excited to see this particular story in such a great journal.
I found out this week that I’ll have two of my stories published in upcoming issues of the Florida Review and Prairie Schooner! Both stories are part of my collection, which I recently completed. I’m thrilled and can’t wait to see these pieces in print in two of my favorite publications.
The Summer issue of The Baltimore Review, which includes work by yours truly, is announced on newpages.com. Check it out if you haven’t!
As usual, BU’s MFA blog offering some love on my recent publications.
My short fiction piece “Beets” has been published in the latest issue of the Baltimore Review! The publication includes a short note at the conclusion of the story.
